In order to maximise the opportunities for the whole community, training times may vary from term to term. This will also reflect the seasonal nature of competitive sport in Hong Kong, allowing students adequate time to train and prepare for upcoming fixtures and tournaments. Whilst we will endeavour to stick to scheduled and publicised times and days for sports-related CAS activities, various logistical issues may dictate that a training day or time is moved. For example:
If an activity is over or undersubscribed
The availability of resources, such as facilities and coaches, changes
If a certain age group needs to be prioritised for an upcoming competition
We will always try to prioritise maximising the opportunities and facilities at our disposal to provide the most for the community.
Training sessions and times
All CAS activities and trainings will be released on WISDOM where students are expected to sign up for their preferred activity choices.
External sporting commitments
We understand that many students represent an external club for one or more sports and we appreciate that this creates time pressure for students. Please note that school fixtures should take priority over external training - we share fixture dates with clubs (for example HKFC, KCC) and they are supportive of school sport, and request that families are active in communicating fixture and training clashes. Families are asked to consider this before agreeing to participate in a WIS team or league.
It is understood that students involved in high level sport may have a commitment to an elite training program outside of school, in these cases the athlete and parents should contact:
The lead coach or teacher in charge of the sport/activity
Ms Jo Caldwell - Lead of High Performance Student Athlete programme
In case of further assistance, Mr Owen Cobley - Director of Sport
It is important to note that context will apply in every decision made by staff, and that the above are guidelines only.
We work closely with local sports providers and are active in dialogue with coaches, and there is common agreement that school sport is just as valued by students as club sport. We fully appreciate the commitment expected of students by external sports clubs and in order to support this we:
Tailor our training days to minimise clashes with club training and fixtures
Share our training days and fixture lists with clubs and external coaches as soon as possible
Maintain regular and open dialogue with organisations to help manage any conflict of interest that may arise
